Talking about realities.

So, Ernesto tells us we shouldn’t get involved on the American mainstream that everything should be about helping out community and getting successful within it, not outside of it. Nevertheless, isn’t the same Institution part of the American mainstream? And even if it wasn’t, what the hell would Choche and I be doing here, working with them when our community is miles away from here.

I do agree on the fact that you should be proud of where you come from and all your cultural background, but I think that you can take that and not only be proud of it but embrace it anywhere. Sometimes the best thing you can do it to get out of your reality, you community and makes mayor changes in other to go back and help them.

Think about it, if your reality consists on a community who still has a lot to develop and is currently stuck on its progress, wouldn’t it be better, if you had the chance, to get out of it and get the resources to go back and change not only yours but you whole community’s reality? I mean, isn’t creating different realities just for yourself even more selfish than not doing it at all?

I know it may seem like I am doing that, but something you have to get out so you can learn and change your own way of thinking so you can come back and see what is it that you can improve so yourself along with your community may evolve.

On the other hand, what if it’s not your community’s way of thinking the one you want to change? I know that at least that is not my goal this summer. Actually, what I want to do it change other people realities and prejudgments about how Americas and Latinos from the U.S. view Mexicans.

Personally, I hate it when people come up to me and ask me where I learned my English. Seriously? Dude, in Mexico we learn English since we are what, two? Sometimes before! And by the time we are in high school you’re learning a third language and, for a lot of people, once you get to college you are learning your fourth language. I myself have studied English, Japanese and French and although I can’t have an elaborated conversation with the last two, I am indeed very fluent in English and I don’t need an IV league education for that.

I don’t know, truth been told, there is not absolute reality. I just like The National Hispanic Institute needed resources and people how had them to be created and help this communities some of us need to get out and embrace other realities that might even be more suitable for ourselves.

I don’t think this life should be just about creating new realities if you think you do not fit on yours, because then everyone would be isolated because of the slightness difference. I think it should be more just about making your own reality, whichever it is, just better and in constant evolution but, above all, always be proud of what you are and where you came from no matter how far from your ancestors realities are. Because we have to remember, even though our parents, grandparents, and so on, came from a completely different reality and we should acknowledge that, we cannot and should not aim to live on it. Evolution is not only good but it’s necessary and as long as you are aware that your past has done nothing but define what you are today, there is nothing wrong with evolving and being better.

Just remember, denying your past or wanting it to be different means you do not like who you are today and the person you have become. And even if you didn’t like yourself, have you though it might be because you’re denying who you really are?

And that right there just starts a whole new discussion….

Para bien o para mal, las ausencias y nostalgias es algo con lo que nos podemos relacionar muy facilmente con las personas.

Muchas gracias por leer y espero que te siga gustando.
